Flagship programme — Sewing & fashion

Learn sewing and fashion, for free

Our school welcomes beginners and enthusiasts, free of charge. We also develop actions and events around fashion throughout the year.

A school to transmit

Learning to sew, alter a garment, create a custom piece, or grasp the basics of styling — these are skills that open doors and create connection. Our school is open to everyone, with no condition of level, age or income, and is entirely free. Our official purpose explicitly includes “teaching sewing and fashion, and developing actions and events in this direction.”

Classes are taught by passionate volunteers (seamstresses, stylists, alterers, tailors) who agree to share their know-how. Equipment is provided: machines, basic fabric, haberdashery. You leave with whatever you have created.

Our courses and workshops

Sewing — beginner

Get to know the machine, basic stitches, first small creations (bag, pouch, pillow case).

Sewing — intermediate

Simple patterns, reading models, alterations on your own clothes, first wardrobe pieces.

Styling & fashion

Introduction to fashion drawing, fabric selection, prototype, presentation: the basics for imagining a collection.

Alterations workshop

Shorten trousers, sew a button, transform an existing garment. Very popular.

Themed workshops

Zero-waste bags, jeans customisation, embroidery, upcycling — one theme per month.

Intergenerational workshop

Elders and young people learn side by side. Intergenerational transmission is at the heart of the project.

Our fashion events

Throughout the year, WAS organises and supports events around fashion: runways, exhibitions, charity sales, open days, pop-ups for local creators. All these events are free or pay-what-you-can.

  • Annual student fashion show
  • Group exhibitions on upcycling
  • Charity sales of volunteer creations
  • Travelling workshops in schools and care homes
  • Open days twice a year

Sign up for a workshop

Sign up by email or via the contact form. Provide your name, age, the course you are interested in, and your availabilities. A volunteer will get back to you to propose a slot and let you know what to bring (usually nothing — everything is on site).
